Our Services Include:

Children’s Speech and Language

Is your child difficult to understand? Do you have concerns about your child’s speech or language development compared to their peers?

A speech therapy evaluation can look at your child’s speech and language development to determine whether they are developing appropriate speech sounds and language skills for their age. A speech and/ or language evaluation can also gather information about what type of speech or language disorder a child may have, and allow the therapist to gather information to guide treatment.

Early Language Intervention

Is your child a late talker, do you have concerns about your child’s language development, and/ or does your child have a medical diagnosis that often includes delayed language and/ or language disorders? Early intervention speech therapy is a great way to support your child’s language development!

Social Communication

Speech therapy can work with your child on social language skills. Areas of focus may include learning appropriate social interactions (e.g., body postures, facial expressions), social understanding (e.g., inferencing, perspective- taking, joint attention), pragmatics, verbal communication (e.g., communicative intentions, communicative functions), nonverbal communication (e.g., behavior, gestures), and language processing.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) encompasses a wide range of tools to help provide clients with functional communication. AAC may range from supportive pictures in a client’s environment to an assistive speaking device, to a device controlled by eye gaze. Your speech therapist can work with you to determine what communication supports may be beneficial to support effective and efficient communication.

Cognitive Communication

This is an area many people don’t know about speech therapy! Our SLP is passionate about cognitive communication treatment, which can include areas such as memory, executive functioning, and attention. This type of treatment may be beneficial after a concussion or traumatic brain injury (TBI), or may be implemented for people with diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Meet the provider

Abby (Wickre) Larson, M.A., CCC-SLP

Speech- Language Pathologist; Owner of Honeycomb Speech and Language, PLC

Hello! My name is Abby (Wickre) Larson, and I am the owner of Honeycomb Speech and Language, PLC. I am a licensed Speech- Language Pathologist in the State of Iowa, and I am also certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association.

I am a proud Humboldt native and graduated from Humboldt High School. I chose to pursue my undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders at the University of Northern Iowa. I then went on to receive my graduate degree in speech- language pathology from the University of Iowa (go hawks!). Following graduation, I completed my clinical fellowship at local area hospitals, and have enjoyed being back in the Humboldt community.

My primary areas of clinical focus include early intervention (birth-3 years), children’s speech and language, augmentative and alternative communication, pediatric feeding, and cognitive communication. I am especially passionate about collaborating with other providers to treat patients post- concussion in areas including memory, attention, and executive functioning. My own experience with a horse riding accident has driven this passion, as having access to high- quality care in the area was such a blessing for me. This also led me to pursue a career in speech- language pathology. Now, I am thankful to be able to give back and offer high quality, evidence- based services here in our community, as well.

Outside of speech therapy, I am currently planning a wedding and enjoying being back to small- town life. I am thrilled to be able to serve the community I grew up in as I put down roots here with my own family.

I would love to connect and discuss how I can support you or your child in your communication journey.
